1993 LX 5.0

Burnout.jpg (16560 bytes)This page is dedicated to pictures and movies of  a very well built 1993 LX Mustang owned by our friend Tucker and his wife, Jennifer.  Unfortunately, he's on his way to Alaska, but we thought we'd do a page on it because of two factors: (1) it was done cost effectively and (2) it is FAST.  The best altitude-corrected numbers to date are 12.28 and 110.9 mph.  Not too bad for a daily driven street machine with fairly limited modifications.

Eng.jpg (35374 bytes)Eng2.jpg (32810 bytes)BBKColdAir.jpg (32575 bytes)Headers.jpg (28796 bytes)The Engine:  The all-original short block has around 50,000 miles on it and runs like the day is was built.  The breathing abilities have been enhanced using a Ford Motorsport Cobra intake, box-stock Ford Motorsport Y302 aluminum heads and Mac equal length headers. The cam is a custom hydraulic-roller Crane design that was used in SlowGT during the 1997 race season.  The cam sports 226 degrees intake/232 degrees exhaust duration on a 110 degree lobe displacement angle and is installed 4 degrees advanced.  The cam actuates the valves through 1.72:1 Ford Motorsport roller rockers resulting in 0.535 inches lift at the valve.  Notice the BBK cold-air filter setup.  Other miscellaneous modifications include a March underdrive pulley set, a Holley 190 lph fuel pump, a Crane fuel pressure regulator and a Pro-M Bullet mass-air sensor.

Interior.jpg (22913 bytes)Seats.jpg (22058 bytes)The Interior:  It's amazing how much of a difference the seats can make in a car.  The seats in Tuckers car are Recaro and not only look really comfortable.... the ARE really comfortable.  Jumping out of a stock 89 LX 5.0 into this car is like night and day..... REALLY nice.  Consider it a slight pain in the wallet to remove a major pain in the...... back side.

FrntWheel.jpg (27006 bytes)RearWheel.jpg (25727 bytes)The Racing Mods:  The car normally runs slicks for racing, but was wearing street tires for the photos and videos.  The rest of the drive train incorporates a stock T-5 transmission, a Centerforce clutch and 4.10 rear gears.  The chassis is reinforced against cracking-up (we've seen it) using subframe connectors.  The suspension is geared for straight-line with Battle Boxes, Mac lower control arms and 70/30 Lakewood front struts.  For these runs, the car is set up with BBK off-road exhaust system and stock mufflers with tail pipes removed.  A B&M Ripper shifter rounds out the non-stock additions.
