Roll Bar

RollBar1.jpg (22917 bytes)RollBar2.jpg (19155 bytes)RCage.jpg (20540 bytes)Six Point Roll Bar:  The 6-point roll bar is made specifically for both hatch and sedan 5.0 liter Mustangs.  The roll bar is made of mild steel tubing and is bolted to the floor pan using NHRA-approved mounting plates.  The roll bar is made by Kenny Brown and is fabricated from 1.75" OD, 0.134" wall tubing.  The setup is designed to allow the rear seat to remain in place.  The 5-point TRW racing harness is attached to the main cross beam.  The padding is made by Jaz Racing Products and is required in all locations where the helmet can come into contact with the roll bar.

RBarBrace1.jpg (18515 bytes)CntrlRmMnt2.jpg (18364 bytes)Torque Box Reinforcement:  The roll bar is structurally tied to the chassis at the lower control arm mounting locations (torque boxes) for reinforcement.  The factory torque boxes are considered a weak link in the Mustang chassis and are frequently damaged in cars seeing a lot of drag strip time.  This weakness requires that the torque boxes be reinforced before the roll bar is attached to them.  The torque box reinforcements on SlowGT are "Battle Boxes" made by Wild Rides.  The roll bar reinforcement braces are are constructed of 1.75" OD, 0.134" wall tubing just like the roll bar and are installed a at 45 degree angle.

RollMnt1.jpg (18307 bytes)RollBarMnt1.jpg (15423 bytes)Mounting Plates:  The mounting plates that attach the roll bar to the floor pan are 6" x 6" x 1/8" thick steel plates that sandwich the floor pan.  The plates are retained using at least three 3/8" grade-8 bolts at each of the four mounting locations.  This configuration is NHRA-legal and makes the roll bar much less permanent for future upgrades.  For the 2000 racing season, this entire setup will be replaced with a 10-point chrome-moly cage.  More on that later.
