Drive Train
Use
the hyperlinks below to get to the detailed drive
train information you want. The goal from the beginning has been
to maintain the SlowGT drive train
in a configuration as close as possible to the factory combination.
Therefore, SlowGT transmits the
engine power through a manual transmission, a Ford aluminum drive shaft
and a factory (though heavily reinforced) 8.8 inch rear end. The
drive train is stout enough to handle more than 150 launches at 7,100
rpm during the '98-'00 season; all in the low 10 to low 11 second range
(depending on altitude). All components were specified and installed by Mike
himself. In this section of the site, we will outline what has
been done to make the drive train transfer the power and live a
long time. We begin with the clutch and will proceed to describe
the entire drive train. Be sure to check this page frequently as
we will be updating it regularly over the next couple of months.
