Clutch
Bellhousing:
The bellhousing is a Lakewood model 15202 and is certified for high rpm
use. The unit weighs approximately 40 lbs (around 32 lbs more than
the stock unit) and is built for safety. The primary difficulty
with using this bellhousing is that it does not clear headers well.
Most headers I've used have some sort of interference issue with this
particular bellhousing. The McLeod bellhousing appears to be
better shaped for clearance.
Clutch:
One of the keys to the wheels-up launch is the clutch. It is a custom
racing clutch made by McLeod and has survived over
100 launches at 7,100 rpm without a sign of fatigue. The entire
clutch assembly weighs approximately 30 lbs less than a stock setup.
The McLeod clutch replaces a Centerforce clutch that was used for
several seasons without any trouble. The only reason the
Centerforce was replace was to incorporate adjustabillity. The flywheel is aluminum with a steel insert. The pressure plate
is a long-style, quick-release, adjustable unit. The disk is iron.
The adjustability allows the possibility of hitting the tires more or
less harshly. Although we have not explored the effects of
adjusting the "hit", it is anticipated that the adjustability
will make tuning the suspension much more easy.
