No - it doesn’t sound like a mechanical problem. We have seen erratic behavior caused by a mechanical failure in the distributor. Check your timing and verify that it is not moving around as the rpm changes (with the “spout” connector removed). Also check the computer for any error codes. Did you change the fuel filter when you replaced the pump?
