Gary,

Yes - there are quite a few formulas for the determination of the optimum intake track length for a given rpm. Most of the formulas will give a good approximation for the optimum length. However, there are many variables that are not taken in to account by these formulas (such as port area, taper angle, cam specs, cylinder head flow rates....). The best way to determine the optimum length is to use the Dynomation engine simulation software package. It allows complete modeling of the entire intake system. The only drawback is the price -around $550.
