I think the lift specs you give here are actually the lobe centerlines. However, for any reasonable lift (< 0.550), a 216 duration cam should not present a clearance problem. The piston-valve clearance should always be checked when a cam is changed. Use a dial indicator on the valve retainer with a "test" spring installed or remove the head and use the clay method.
