The '93 short-block should not cause any difficulties as both the '93 and '86 were available with essentially the same (T5) transmission, head/intake and exhaust configuration. Everything should bolt up easily. We would suggest that while you're at it, go ahead and pop for a better set of heads (Dart Windsor, GT-40P or GT-40X) if you're after moderately increased performance because the '86 heads had fairly small ports. If you're after even more performance, go ahead and get a Cobra throttle-body/intake. Limited modifications like these should not adversely affect the speed-density setup. Go for it.
