Kenneth,
John is planning on running Mar. 3 in Orlando. He has a lot of work to do. It would be great to see you in Hot Street next year. We should have quite a few competitors next year. It will be a lot of fun.
The power band of your engine will determine the gear ratio you need. Generally, you would want to go through the lights at the maximum engine RPM. Assuming a maximum mph of 141 (typical competitive HS mph), a 28” tall tire, and a maximum engine rpm of 7500, you would want a final gear ratio of around 4.4:1. This assumes no clutch or converter slippage in high gear. This is probably only a valid assumption for manual transmission – clutch type systems or lock-up type converters. If I had to make a guess, I would go with the 4.10 gears with the automatic. I would talk to your torque converter manufacturer.
