Bolt-on’s will get you close. To be sure, install a pair of GT-40p cylinder heads and a Cobra (or the Explorer version of the Cobra) intake. We will have a feature (in a couple of days) on a 12.40 mustang with a very similar set-up. If your bottom end has less than 100,000 miles on it I would not worry about it. If you rebuild, I would recommend a 306 if you are interested in a long lifetime motor (> 100,00 miles). If lifetime is not a big issue, go with the 347. Coast High Performance has some very nice 347 stroker kits for very reasonable prices. With the aod, you will need an aftermarket Torque converter (stall rpm around 3000). A T-5 conversion would be much more civilized on the street.
