Good question. The transmission is not synchronized and is very difficult to shift smoothly at part throttle. Jerico makes a synchronized (road race) version of the 4-speed that would probably work much better on the street. The camshaft would also need to be replaced with a street-roller profile to eliminate excessive spring degradation and valve train wear. The spool should also be replaced with a limited-slip type differential for safety. The camshaft change would probably result in a 0.2-0.3 second increase in ET. The transmission and differential change would result in reduced consistency. Obviously, there would still be an emission legality problem.
