I have a 90' GT it has Richmond Gear 3.73's in it and was installed with a Summit install kit. This was done prior to me buying the car, but I have the paperwork to show it, and have since opened it up to take a look. Unfortunately here is my problem. When I turn sharp and accellerate, or sometimes just starting in a straight line I will get a vibration through the floor. It is kind of like a low growl, but you can barely here it, only feel it. I pulled my diff. cover off to change the gear oil and take a look and was amazed at what I found. I found what I believe to be a pinion shim that had worked its way half way out. What would cause this, doesn't the shim slide over the axle? It was just sticking out between the cap and the other shims. This is on the left side (as you look from behind the car). It was a .012" shim, and it still makes this vibration/noise without the shim in there. I am not sure, but I think it somehow just wore thin and broke. The magnetic plug was full of metal shavings. I am assuming that my backlash is wrong and the pinion gear is "walking" from left to right. There is no whine to the rearend, just this wierd vibration/noise. What can I do to fix this, remove the pinion and trac lock and reinstall with a new shim kit? I don't think the gears are hurt YET, but I need to act fast to prevent a $200 gear set from going down the tubes. Thank you very much. eric
