2000 Saleen S281

281SFront.jpg (20116 bytes)This page is dedicated to coverage of the 2000 model Saleen S281.  Below we have some pictures and videos that we hope you like.  This is one sharp looking car!  In the past, we haven't really cared too much for Saleen models because they didn't seem to justify the extra cost.... curves are OK, but we're really interested in "straight-line" fun.  Well, we've noticed a few of the new Saleens on the road lately and they really seemed to catch our eye, so I was more than happy to check one out at our local Ford dealer.  Published magazine articles have the cars running between 13.4's and 13.8's on street tires, depending on who you believe.  The one you see here is one of less than 5 produced this year in Zinc Yellow, according to Chris Richards.

281seng1.jpg (30338 bytes)281seng4.jpg (34182 bytes)The Engine:  The engine is rated by Saleen at 350 horsepower and 410 ft-lb torque.  Whatever the thing makes, it sounds really good making it (check the videos below).  I don't know who made the stainless exhaust (maybe Borla??) but they get an A+!  Not visible from the pictures is the water-to-air intercooler just below the upper intake.  You can see the intercooler water reservoir with the radiator cap, to the bottom left of the picture far left from here.... got that??

281sundr.jpg (24538 bytes)281srend.jpg (22808 bytes)281SWheel2.jpg (21330 bytes)The Drive Train:  Rear suspension is a live-axle 3.08 rear end - straight from a GT.  Check out the rim width!!  That's the backside of an 18"x10" rear wheel.

281SStck2.jpg (18544 bytes)The Bottom Line:  Well, this one pretty much speaks for itself.
