2000 Cobra R

cobrar2.jpg (23539 bytes)This page is dedicated to pictures and movies of  2000 model Cobra R Mustangs, one of which we found located at a local Ford dealership.  Special thanks to Chris Richards for the access.  Unfortunately, the day these were taken (July 7, 2000), the car was shipped off to its new owner in Texas.  I must confess, after looking at these cars in the magazines, I really wasn't too impressed with the styling.  However, after seeing one in person, all I can say is "Where's MINE"?????  This thing is REALLY beautiful in person and Ford really did pay a lot of attention to the details - such as fully painting and clear coating (it appeared) all of the sheet metal under the hood.  Hope you enjoy it!!

cobrar2.jpg (23539 bytes)cobrar3.jpg (25422 bytes)The outside.  Front end is enough of a departure from standard Mustang appearance that all observers notice that it's "different".  The wing looks pretty "over-the-top" in most magazine articles I've seen... but in person, it looks "sufficiently radical".  Cool (and functional) touch.

CobraREng3.jpg (29600 bytes)CobraRExh3.jpg (22123 bytes)CobraRExh2.jpg (22455 bytes)CobraRInt1.jpg (24105 bytes)The Engine:  The engine, as we all know, is the "holy grail" of current Ford performance engine offerings, the 5.4 liter 4-valve Mod motor.  Although you can't really see it well, there is a custom Canton oil pan underneath.  This thing sounds sweet, although a bit quiet to be making 385 horsepower.  I think we can figure a way to "fix" the quiet.  The exhaust arrives to (and exits from) the front of the mufflers.  As can be seen, the mufflers are made by Borla.  The intake is a work of art.

Cobra-r5.jpg (26558 bytes)Cobra-r1.jpg (24678 bytes)Cobra-r2.jpg (22346 bytes)Extra Pix From Arkansas!!  David Rogers out of Arkansas happened to catch the brand new Cobra R pictured here at a local track making passes.  By the time David left the track, the 'R' had run best times of 11.62 @ 98 at 1000' and mid/low 8's @ 85 in the eighth.  Experience has shown that a low 8 in the eighth is about equal to a high 12 in the quarter.  These aren't bad numbers for a car with only 32 miles on the odometer at the end of the night.  Note that this car has the front air dam installed.
